The Standup Wireless Free Cell Phone Program
If you reached this page from a search engine, we strongly recommend you read our free government cell phone page for important Lifeline Assistance program information first.
Standup Wireless is a service provider under the government assistance program called Lifeline. Lifeline was instituted under the Reagan Administration so everyone in the US would be able to communicate with friends, employers and contact authorities in case of emergency.
In 2005 the Lifeline program expanded to include cell phones and landlines as advancing technology took over the communication network and cell phones were becoming more and more essential.
Lifeline providers, including Standup Wireless, only allow one Lifeline account per household. This means a household is able to to receive Lifeline assistance for one landline or one wireless line, but not both or more than one landline or more than one wireless line.
The Lifeline program is made possible by the Universal Service Fund which provides free or extremely discounted cell phones and service plans to providers such as Standup Wireless.
To qualify for Lifeline assistance, potential Standup Wireless customers must receive assistance from a specified list of government programs or have a gross income below or at a state and/or Federal Government regulated percentage.
These qualifications vary by state, in order to ensure eligibility for a free cell phone and service plan in your household from Standup Wireless, be sure to check your state’s specific Lifeline requirements.
Proof documents are also necessary to prove a potential Standup Wireless customer is eligible for Lifeline service. Eligibility qualifications are based on which government assistance programs a potential Standup Wireless customer is enrolled in but also how much their gross income is.
Many states vary on which documents they require to prove that a potential Standup Wireless customer is at or below 135% or 150% of the national poverty line. Remember to check your state’s specific proof document and government assistance program qualifications before applying for Lifeline services and a free or discounted cell phone or landline.
